The Cat 785 has oil cooled brakes on both the front and rear axles. Magnom Max XL's were installed on the front and rear brake return cooling lines. The system helps to remove any ferrous material that could be created in the brake groups and transported back to the rest of the machine’s hydraulic system.
Our goal is to remove all the ferrous particles (large and sub-micron) that are circulating in a hydraulic system and extend the lives of all the important hydraulic components like motors, pumps, electric and mechanical valves and cylinders.
Most earthmoving machines have hydraulic filters that remove particles down to 10 microns. The Magnom magnetic filters concentrate on removing iron and steel particles down to sub-micron sizes. This allows the existing hydraulic filter media to focus on removing dirt, sludge, etc.
As you can see from the following 2 photos, the Magnom XL captured substantial ferrous particles...preventing further contamination of other hydraulic systems on the truck.
As the truck is operated, the Magnom system essentially "kidney loops" the entire hydraulic system (to particle sizes below 1 micron).
Removing ferrous particles from hydraulic systems can help extend the lives of the hydraulic components/cylinders, reduce unexpected downtime and lower operating costs.
