Customer purchased an new Cat 336EL and was very interested in prolonging the life of his engine. During the first 100 to 500 hours of operation, engines will create micron sized ferrous particles as part of the break-in.
The Magnom PFU grabs these magnetic particles to keep them from being imbedded in soft bearing materials. The objective is to extend engine life and reduce probability of unscheduled repairs.
The quick oil evac fill lines were relocated slightly to the right to enable more room under the spin on oil filter. (blue and yellow quick disconnect protective caps)
Notice that the PFU200 now becomes the "filter base" for the spin on engine oil filters. The Magnom PFU200 has ample room to enable replacing the spin on filter at oil change intervals.
The Magnom PFU200 removes large and sub-micron sized particles over the life of the engine. Below is an example of accumulation just during engine break-in.
PFU replacement intervals vary depending upon the applicaiton. Most of our Mining clients are replacing the PFU on an annual basis or every 5000 hours. For a contractor that runs a machine 1800 hours per year, they may replace every 2 to 3 years.
It is possible to monitor the accumulation by removing the PFU, gently wash away the dark engine oil with fresh solvent and then examine the magnet plates for accumulation.
The Magnom PFU allows the spin on oil filter to focus on capturing any dirt or sludge and the PFU to focus on collecting ferrous magnetic micron sized particles.
